Call for artists – Upstream Art Trail 2017

2017 Theme: Structure

The Call: the Upstream Art Trail is looking for sculptural projects by emerging artists and designers that address the broad theme of STRUCTURE, as well as respond or interact with specific sites within Brooklyn’s Central Park in Brooklyn, Wellington.

Emerging Artists

The Art Trail is focused on emerging artists and designers, most likely people who are recent graduates or in the early years of their creative practice. We intend the event to serve as a hothouse for showcasing local emerging talent, in line with one of the Wellington City Council’s strategic goals.

Selected artists will be mentored by artist Gabby O’Connor, a member of the Art Trail committee.

The Event

The 2017 Upstream Art Trail will be a temporary public art exhibition held over four days from 2 to 5 March. It will build on the success of the inaugural Art Trail which ran in 2015 and was recognised with the “Best Visual Arts Award” in the New Zealand Fringe Festival.

Selection

The curatorial panel will assess each proposal based on the response to the proposed site, the consideration of temporary installation/ construction/de-assembly, the resilience to weather, vandalism or misuse, and above all, the innovative contribution to the event’s curatorial focus on ‘STRUCTURE’.
